Macaroni Cheese and Baked Beans
A classic English macaroni cheese and baked beans with macaroni, strong flavoured cheese, of bread (brown or white or granary). Hearty, comforting and proper.
Ingredients
- 60 gm macaroni
- 75 gm strong flavoured cheese
- 1 slice of bread (brown or white or granary)
- 1 tspn oregano
- 1 small tin baked beans
- 1½ tbspn dark soy sauce
- 1 tspn Chinese 5-spice
Method

Place the baked beans in a small bowl and mix with the soy sauce. Leave this to marinade for if possible.

Grease an ovenproof dish.

Parboil the macaroni for in salted water.

Grate the cheese.

Make breadcrumbs from the slice and put them in a small bowl (can use whatever bread you have and also use the crust).

Mix the 5-spice and oregano with the breadcrumbs.

Put ½ of the beans/soy sauce into the ovenproof dish.

Add ½ of the parboiled macaroni.

Add ½ of the grated cheese.

Repeat the layers of beans/soy, macaroni and cheese.

Top with the breadcrumb mixture and spread it out to cover the dish, patting it down lightly.

Sprinkle just a little oil over the top of the breadcrumbs.
